Windows Phone 7.8 to arrive in Q1 2013

With the world’s eyes glued to the Windows Phone 8 launch and the WP8 devices, people seem to have forgotten about the update for the now-older generation Windows Phone devices. Phones like my current Lumia 800 won’t get to run Windows Phone 8, but instead they’ll run a feature-limited 7.8 version which, as the latest news confirm, will arrive in the first quarter of 2013. The news comes straight from @WindowsPhoneBr, the official WP channel in Brasil.

A bit late, if you ask me, but this might turn out to be a smart move on Microsoft’s part. Eager customers might make the switch to Windows-Phone 8 in the meantime if they have to wait too long. But if I had any say in the matter, I’d have released the new version along with WP8.
